The Great British Salsa Experience salsa dance event in Manchester UKFAQs

We hope we have answered the most likely questions here, but if your question is not answered below please email us and we will add it to this page to help us improve our service to you.

Why are there different ticket types?

You can choose one of our 5 ticket types according to how many workshops you wish to do at the event, ie. 0, 4, 6, 8 or 10.  Our tickets are priced accordingly so if you only ever dip into workshops at events like these, you pay less for your ticket.  The more workshops you want to do, the higher the price of the ticket.  There are separate tickets available for Beginners.

Why does the basic ticket price exclude evening shows?

We have limited capacity within the Great Hall (for health and safety reasons) and cannot accommodate every ticket-holder for all 3 evening showcases.  So, this year we’ve put in place a ticket structure and you can opt to watch shows on 1, 2 or 3 nights for a cost of £5 per night.  It’s first-come, first-served so buy early to avoid disappointment.  One of the benefits of doing it this way is that we can guarantee a seat for everyone so you can watch in relaxed comfort!

How do I select my show nights?

You make your show choices when you purchase your basic ticket online at www.salsatribe.com.  Please note that the show schedule for each night will be published in September, but we will ensure that there are the same number and quality of shows on each night. Will you be selling Day and Party-Only Tickets

The Great British Salsa Experience is a weekend event with limited capacity and so priority has been given to people buying weekend tickets.  Day-Only tickets and Single Night Party tickets will not be available.  We do have a GBSEx0 (3-Night Party ticket) on sale for those of you wishing to attend the event but not wanting to do workshops.

Are tickets refundable?

Yes tickets are refundable, but only up to and including 30 Aug 2010.  However, you will be charged a £15 administration fee if you choose to refund your ticket.  You will  not be able to refund your tickets after 30 Aug 2010.  You can transfer your ticket to another person at any time prior to Wednesday 17 Nov 2010 at 12 noon.

Are tickets transferable?

Yes, you can transfer your ticket to another person at any time prior to Wednesday 17 Nov 2010 at 12 noon.  You will need to contact us with the full name, email address, telephone number and dance style (On1, On2 or Cuban) of the person you wish to transfer your ticket to.

Why are you pre-booking workshops?

Overcrowding in workshops is a common problem in salsa congresses around the world.  By requiring all ticket-holders to book their workshops prior to the event, we can monitor numbers, allocate workshops fairly and add-in workshops to reflect demand as they fill up.  It also means no-one will get turned away from any workshop on the day.

The experience of GBSEx 08 and 09 also told us that workshop pre-booking meant participants were more likely to be in a class that was right for their level of ability, perhaps because people took greater care in planning their workshop attendance and were not turned away from their first choice of workshop on the day.

Will workshops be large?

Yes, some workshops will be large.  This is an international, congress-style event and we want to give as many of you as possible the opportunity to do workshops with teachers we don’t see very often.  However, workshop pre-booking will mean that numbers in classes will be comfortable and reflect the amount of floor space available in each venue.  We won’t pack you in!

Will workshops have even numbers of men and women?

Workshop pre-booking does mean we are able to regulate the male:female ratio in partnerwork classes.  However, if we were to enforce strictly equal numbers of men and women, it would mean very limited places for women in many classes.  Instead, we constantly monitor numbers and try to avoid any extreme imbalances.  All instructors are required to rotate partners in workshops.

Why can’t I do unlimited classes?

At GBSEx we are going for quality rather than quantity.  We are asking all participants to be a bit more selective about the types and numbers of classes they do in order to ensure workshops are not overcrowded and that the learning experience of participants is enjoyable and comfortable.  Having said all that, you can still choose our GBSEx10 ticket type and do 10 workshops over the weekend!  You can also buy additional workshops at the event itself, subject to availability.

How do I book my workshops?

Workshops are booked online using the ‘time4class’ website.  Please note that you cannot book workshops until you have bought a ticket.  Once you’ve bought a ticket(s), you will be sent instructions on how to book workshops by email.

How do I select the right workshops for my level of ability?

It is important to choose the right workshops for your ability because you may not be able to change them at the event if you find yourself in the wrong level. To help you choose, we have posted some guidelines at www.time4class.com/gbse/levels.php.

If I book late will I get good workshops?

The earlier you book, the greater choice of workshops you’ll have.  However, we’ve put on over 80 hours of workshops to ensure there’s enough choice and that everyone gets a good spread of classes. You can also view the workshop schedule and current availability BEFORE buying a ticket at www.time4class.com.

Once I‘ve booked my workshops can I change my mind later?

Yes, subject to availability, you can login to the booking system at any time to change your class selection.  You will also be able to swap your workshop selections at the event itself (up to half an hour before a class starts), again subject to availability.

Why do I need to provide my email address?

We are using email addresses to uniquely identify everyone who buys a ticket and subsequently books workshops.  Our workshop booking system will also use your email address to correspond with you about how to book workshops, any changes to the workshop schedule and in confirming your booking.

I don’t have an email address?

Obtaining an email address is quick, easy and free. You can get an email address from Yahoo or Hotmail. Just remember to check your inbox regularly for updates about the event.

What happens if I change my email address after I’ve booked my ticket?

If you change your email address before the event, please inform us so that you can still receive instructions on how to book workshops, essential updates including any changes to the workshop schedule, event news and any personal correspondence.

What if I forget which workshops I’ve booked?

You can log in to the workshop booking system at any time in the run up to the event with your username and password and view, print, or change your selections.

I’m not receiving any emails from you?

Please make sure that our emails are not being filtered into your spam folder.  This is the most likely explanation.  If not, please contact us and we’ll check your email address.

I have forgotten my password for the workshop booking system?

Go to www.time4class.com and underneath the Login box there is a link to click to reset your password. Simply re-enter your email address and a new password will be sent out to you.

Can I change my password to something more memorable?

Yes! Simply log in with the password that was emailed to you and under 'Your Details' you will see a link named 'change your password.'  Click here to choose a new password. Your password remains secret (even from us!) and you should not disclose it to anyone.
